Net neutrality: VoIP is commonly blocked

Earlier in the week we aired our concerns about the performance of VoIP over commodity Internet access during the London 2012 games. BEREC (Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications) has added to that concern by reporting preliminary findings on traffic management policies across Europe. They show that blocking of VoIP is common already, before networks are under the extraordinary pressure of the Olympics. Our view remains the same: VoIP over shared capacity is risky. Private uncontended connectivity is the only way of assuring performance.
